We decided to create a winter wonderland scene.
For our midterm, we were asked to create an site-based illusion in the Tisch building. Here is the post for our proposal. We were inspired by Brunelleschi's linear perspective of the Florence Cathedral. We wanted to create an illusion that, similarly, could only be observed from one single point.
We decided to put up a the appearance of a barrier in the stairwell of the Tisch building, hoping to create a moment of pause.
Here is the process and point of reference we used or putting up the installation:
And here is the final product
For our midterm project, Alexia, Natasha and myself recreated a scene from 2001 Space Odyssey into a 360 scene: https://youtu.be/ou6JNQwPWE0?t=36s
We had an actor come in to shoot from the prospective of the astronaut
We worked with the depth kit to add some weird space-y effects on the scene.
Here's the end result in 360 video:

The main takeaway and proposed solution from our challenge can be found on the last slide of the presentation deck:
As we mentioned in the readings for this week, it is important that we share our failures so that others don't make the same mistakes over and over. A failure should be looked at as a learning experience. As for our midterm presentations, some solutions couldn't definitively be resolved and others had multiple solutions with no obvious answer. We all however, ran into many challenges in the exploration of completing these assignments and I learned a lot from the roadblocks that other groups ran into.

This week my group (Jared, Lindsey and Sharif) and I met to test out our top illusion for the midterm project. We have decided to take on the barrier illusion in the exit stairwell from the fourth floor. This is the inspiration and the piece that we are attempting to recreate:
We first attempted to map the tape with the Isadora software, but we were unsuccessful since this was our first attempt at the tool
Instead we resorted to a more simplistic way of attempting the illusion by drawing the square on a transparent film and the person from the POV of the illusion directed where the tap was to be placed in the space.
